~Laughing Cat Designs was started in the Fall of 2000.
I was a 'stay-at-home' mom of two children ages 2 and 5.
Christmas was around the corner and I had no money for presents
for friends and family. Unless I could sprout the proverbial 'Money
Tree', I needed to think of something!
Beading was just starting to get 'hot'...with all of my Design
background, I figured what the heck! So I started out with a
minimal amount of supplies, and voilà, I was hooked. I had finally
found something I could do to make money, and also be able to
work from home and take care of my 2 cherished babies.
My earrings and bracelets started to sell! I bought more and more
beads....I actually moved to a bigger work space...I got more 'orders'
and things took off.
~How my Company became 'Laughing Cat':
The name of my Company was inspired by my cat Jesse---
'Juice Toes'. He, unfortunately is no longer with me---he passed
away at age 15. However, he was an ornery cat, and a big fat 'love
muffin'. When I was in college,I adopted him from the streets of
Richmond Virginia. He was a tiny lost kitten.
He did not stay tiny for long!
10 years later, I was sitting in my kitchen, late at night, making
jewelry---and pondering a name for my 'company'.
Leave it to Jesse to 'help' me out! He jumped on the counter, and
spread his voluminous body across every thing I was working on.
He had a look on his face like,'What? Oh....were you working here'?
So he stood up with beads all stuck to him and jumped down--
of course 'slipping' to create more of a mess.
At that time I swear I heard him laugh---I know cats don't
laugh...but wouldn't it be neat if they could!
So, 'Laughing Cat Designs'....

I have also found the success selling my Jewelry, etc. through
'word-of-mouth', Festivals, private Club shows (Hospital Volunteer
groups, Church and School fairs) , Home shows and through my
very valued repeat customers.
I enjoy making Custom Orders for Brides, and Bridesmaids
as well.
One of the (many) great things about my work is that it is
affordable! I want everybody to be decked in Laughing Cat Designs,
and not have to fork over a car payment! (I'm just kidding about the
car payment!)
One of my dreams is to be able to open a Studio/Shop where other
'Mom artists' can display and sell their work as well.

~My Background:
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from Virginia
Commonwealth University. I also studied the History of Costume,
and Fashion Illustration in Paris, France with Parson's School of
Design. Living in Paris is something I will never forget---it was 'tres
magnifique' to say the least! I cannot wait to get back.
Perennial Gardening , Landscape Design and Installation are what I
do in my 'free' time.
I have been a Merchandiser for major department stores, and small
specialty boutiques, as well as an Interior Designer.
I love the theatre, and have designed Costumes for a professional
theatre. I have also performed in several musicals and dance
productions throughout my life.
I am inspired by the colors from nature and the
ocean...my kids, my husband, and anything that
brings joy to life!
My 3 children are now 12, 9, and 2 1/2years old...and I am still
amazed by them. They are growing up too fast!
My favorite times are spent with my husband, and all 3 of our
children together---whether on our boat, on the beach or just
hanging out at HOME!
